According to the findings of an investigation into her death, Lucy Reed, 15, died after inhaling her vomit while swimming in the waters off Cleethorpes Beach on a full stomach in 2023. The coroner ruled that she became ill and vomited as she was trying to get out of the deeper part of the waters.
